Skin, it’s the largest organ of our body, and one of the first things people notice about us. We spend hundreds of dollars every year trying to make it look its best. Whether it is creams and makeup to make it look better on the outside or proper diet, staying hydrated, and supplements trying to look better from the inside out, we all try to look our best. Chances are there is something about your skin you would like to change. It could be fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, acne scars, or maybe you just feel like you have lost your glow. We all know that collagen is key, but how do you prompt your body to produce collagen where you want it?

That is where micro-needling, or collagen induction therapy, comes into play. Micro-needles are used to create controlled tiny injuries to the skin, prompting the body’s natural wound response. Your body then begins producing new collagen and elastin in the dermis of the skin. The result, reduction in scars, fine lines, wrinkles, pores, as well as overall rejuvenated skin. A proven technique that has been used for decades, micro-needling isn’t just for your face, you can use micro-needling on the neck, chest, hands, stomach and other areas as well.

imageWhat can you expect with a micro-needling appointment? Each appointment is about an hour long. The doctor will first apply a numbing agent to the area that is to be treated, once properly numbed, Hyaluronic Acid will be applied to aid the micro-needling device in gliding over the skin. It is normal to experience mild redness and erythema, peeling, or swelling for 1-3 days after a treatment. Most people require 3-5 treatments with 4 to 6 weeks between treatments for maximum benefits. While you may notice some initial improvement in overall skin tone, new collagen formation takes 4-6 weeks to develop so you may not see true results for 3 months, though the collagen stimulation effect can last up to 1 year. You may also choose to add PRP (platelet rich plasma) to your treatments to intensify the effect of micro-needling on scarring and wrinkles.
